It is actually quite normal that a Forex broker offers only 5 – 20 lots of market liquidity per currency pair during one session.(one moment)

Even for some Mega Forex brokers, the market provided isn’t so liquidated and this will lead to “Slippage” for trading of larger volumes.

You may consider the limitation of “Retail Forex Markets”, as it is not an institutional “Prime of Prime” brokerage service.

Depth of Market

As you may have already known, you can see the available market liquidity for each symbols at each specific price.

In the below example, you can see that there is only about 10 – 35 lots of market liquidity available at the tightest spread of EURUSD during the current session.

In this case, if you order a “Buy” position of EUR/USD with volume of more than 10 lots, the order will get slippage or maybe not even executed.

Actually, it is the total market liquidity displayed in the above “Depth of Market” window, so you should consider there are other market participants, who maybe trying to execute his/her orders at the same time.

So the actual available market liquidity for yourself is normally much smaller.

When trading Forex in retail Forex market, it is very important to monitor the Depth of Market and understand the current market situation by numbers.

Time & Sales

If you like to find out the all orders executed within the same market, you may refer to the “Time & Sales” board.

In there, you can see every single order executed by other market participants, with details including time, volume, direction and price as below.

*In order to use this “Time & Sales” board, the option needs to be enabled on your Forex broker’s side.
