How to find a trading server on MT4/MT5

On MT4 and MT5 trading platforms, you can find a trading server name which is applicable for your trading account, in order to log in to your live or demo trading account.

When you need to log in to your trading account, you need to type in (or select):

  1. Trading Account Number
  2. Account Password
  3. Trading Server

Sometimes, the trading server you have provided when you opened your trading account, does not show up in the selection.

In such as case, you will need to find a trading server by searching for it on the platform directly.

Follow the instructions below to add a trading server on your MT4 and MT5 trading platforms.

1. Go to “File” → “Open an account”

You don’t have to open an account for this process, but you will need to use this feature to search for trading server names and add to your platform.

2. Go to “add new broker like….” and type your broker’s server name, and click “scan”

By searching for the server name there, you should be able to find the server you are looking for.

If you still don’t see the server name you are looking for, then you will need to contact your broker’s support team or re-install MT4 or MT5 trading platform from your broker’s website.

3. All the relevant server names will appear in the list

You can also reinstall the MT4 from the broker, so the server names in the MT4 will be updated.

If you cannot log in to your account with the login credentials which is given by your broker, you need to contact the support desk of your broker.

Download your broker’s platform for proper functionality

MT4 and MT5 trading platforms are 2 of the most popular trading platforms in the world.

Majority of MT4 and MT5 trading platforms have the same functionality regardless of the broker you have chosen, but the main differences between each broker’s platform would be:

  • Available Financial Markets for trading
  • Availability of Market Depth Window
  • Account opening option

In case you are using a broker’s MT4 or MT5 platform, to log in to other broker’s trading accounts, then you may encounter a problem.

In that case, you may not be able to log in to your platform, find a financial symbol that you want to trade or other malfunctions.

When you trade on MT4 and MT5 trading platforms, make sure to download the platforms directly from your broker’s website in order to avoid any possible errors.
