MetaTrader5 trading platform is a windows based program, thus you are recommended to use MT5 trading platform on Windows OS.

MT5 is also officially available for Android devices, iOS devices and on the web, so you can also install the program on your device to login and trade online through MT5.

If you like to run MT5 on a PC with Linux OS, you will need to install a program to run programs of Windows.

MetaQuotes, the developer of MetaTrader5 recommends traders to run “Ubuntu” using “Wine”.

>Wine is a free and open source software application that aims to allow applications designed for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating systems. One of the Wine versions is designed for Ubuntu.

Please note that there are several problems reported regarding to using MT5 on Linux or MAC OS, such as the “Market” tab is unavailable and problem of logging into trading accounts.

The type of trading platform also depends on the service of your Forex broker, so you may follow the instruction of your Forex broker.

*Note that Wine is not a fully stable application. This means that some functions in the applications you start under it may work improperly or not work at all.
