Macroeconomic factors such as inflation and interest rates have a huge influence on individual currency prices and can create trends that last from a few months to many years.

Traders including huge hedge funds such as Bridgewater Associates and Soros Fund Management attempt to understand and anticipate changes in economic data as a source for a long lasting trading edge.
