Last week, the US dollar strengthened significantly relative to the major currency pairs. The dollar index (#DX) updated annual highs and exceeded the 96.00 mark. Reserve banks of Australia and New Zealand left key interest rates unchanged at 1.50% and 1.75% respectively. The pound updated its annual lows due to concerns about Brexit consequences. Participants in financial markets continue to assess the risks of a trade war.
In the upcoming trading week, we recommend you to pay attention to the following macroeconomic events and reports.
August 13th, Monday
On Monday, the news feed will be calm.
The publication of important economic reports is not planned.
August 14th, Tuesday
On Tuesday, we expect publication of important statistics:
- Industrial production in China at 05:00 (GMT+3:00);
- Data on GDP of Germany at 09:00 (GMT+3:00);
- Statistics on the UK labor market at 11:30 (GMT+3:00);
- German ZEW economic sentiment at 12:00 (GMT+3:00).
August 15th, Wednesday
On Wednesday, investors’ attention will be focused on the following economic reports:
- The UK consumer price index at 11:30 (GMT+3:00);
- A report on retail sales in the US at 15:30 (GMT+3:00);
- The volume of industrial production in the US at 16:15 (GMT+3:00).
August 16th, Thursday
On Thursday, we expect a report on the labor market in Australia at 04:30 (GMT+3:00).
At 11:30 (GMT+3:00), the Office for National Statistics of Great Britain will publish data on retail sales in the country.
At 15:30 (GMT+3:00) we expect the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index and statistics on the real estate market in the United States.
August 17th, Friday
The trading week will end with the publication of reports on inflation in the Eurozone and Canada at 15:30 (GMT+3:00).
