Last week, the US dollar continued to strengthen against the major currencies. The dollar index (#DX) updated local extremes. Support was provided by optimistic economic reports and growth in the yield of the US government bonds. At the moment, participants in financial markets are waiting for the Fed’s meeting and a report on the US labor market.
In the upcoming trading week, we recommend you to pay attention to the following macroeconomic events and reports.
April 30th, Monday
On Monday, investors’ attention will be focused on the following economic reports:
- The index of business activity in the manufacturing sector of China at 04:00 (GMT+3:00);
- The index of pending sales in the US real estate market at 17:00 (GMT+3:00).
May 1st,Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia will take a decision on the interest rate at 07:30 (GMT+3:00).
It is expected that the regulator will leave the key interest rate unchanged at 1.50%.
Important statistics:
- The index of business activity in the manufacturing sector of the UK at 11:30 (GMT+3:00);
- Data on GDP of Canada at 15:30 (GMT+3:00);
- The index of business activity in the manufacturing sector of the US from ISM at 17:00 (GMT + 3:00).
May 2nd, Wednesday
On Wednesday, the US Federal Reserve will announce its decision on the interest rate at 21:00 (GMT+3:00).
Experts expect that the regulator will leave the key interest rate at the previous level of 1.75%.
We recommend paying attention to the comments by the Central Bank representatives.
The Fed may point to the rate of further monetary policy tightening.

May 3rd, Thursday

May 4th, Friday
On Friday, the attention of financial market participants will be focused on a report on the US labor market at 15:30 (GMT+3:00).
At 17:00 (GMT+3:00) the data on business activity in Canada from Ivey will be released.
