The German election results delivered the expected result as current Chancellor Angela Merkel managed to win a fourth term.. However, a major problem is on the way as Angela Merkel has not won enough votes to make a government on her own comfortably.

Merkel will probably need to make a coalition with the Free Democrats and the Greens in order to avoid greater political uncertainties. In addition to that, the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany came third with 12.6% of the votes, enough to win seats in the Bundestag for the first time.

Thanks to these turbulences, the EUR/USD traded down 0.63% from Friday’s close.
