Economic data from the U.S. is relatively quiet for the week ahead, save for a few reports that are expected to come later in the week.
The U.S. markets are closed on Monday and trading is expected to remain thin on Tuesday as well.
On the economic front, the U.S. S&P Case Shiller housing price index data will be coming out followed by the Richmond Fed manufacturing Index.
The index gives an estimate of the manufacturing activity in the Richmond area.
Estimates from other regions previously such as the Empire State Manufacturing index was seen pointing to a slower growth.
Consumer Confidence Index data release
Later in the week, economic data will see the release of the Conference Board’s consumer confidence index.
In November, the consumer confidence was seen at 129.5.
Economists forecast that the consumer confidence index will slip slightly to 128.00.
Pending Home Sales Data release
The U.S. pending home sales data is also expected to come out later in the day.
Economists forecast that pending home sales fell 0.75% on the month in November.
This follows a robust 3.5% increase in the previous month. However, there is a potential for the pending home sales report to come out stronger than expected.
As seen last week, other housing data from the U.S. showed that the housing market index rose to an 18-year high in the month of December, while housing starts data grew 3.3% on the year in November.
